Try vainly to ignore the repetitive pop-up ads (unless they go away if you allow cookies, I wouldn’t know) and check out the Lockheed-Martin candidate for the new Crew Exploration Vehicle, the replacement for the dilapidated Space Shuttle.

Also, added a link to BlogsNow, cuz frankly, it’s neat!

Interesting blofs I have recently found

Core Dump >> Opinion, Babes and Bondage. the name alone is intriguing. The blog moreso. She posts about Objectivism, programming, some kink stuff. I could spend all day in this gal’s mind! In fact, I liked her enough, I bought shares in her blog on Blogshares. Is it wrong to buy shares and then post a link? I really don’t know. I don’t actually understand the purpose of Blogshares at all. I’m just a weekend (or weekday) duffer I guess.

Average Mom To quote her sub-head “Not June Cleaver, not Peggy Bundy. Just an average mom, like everybody else.” Except she’s really funny. Touching when discussing her battles with depression. She refers to her two small children as Boy Terror and Girl Terror – how can you not read this woman? She is a real favorite of Mrs. Bixby (Not Her Real Name).

D’Oh! Part II

I really messed it up this time. I was trying to upgrade my WordPress from 1.5 to 1.5.1.1. It turns out that I was looking at the wrong Wiki for the upgrade (apparently, the new install one instead). It also turns out that I really don’t have clue one what I am doing. I overwrote all of my WP files, created a new database and managed to apparently wipe my entire blog. This, if true, is highly disappointing, to say the least. I hope against hope that you would be able to restore my blog from a recent back-up. If so, I promise, I will love you forever. No really. I mean it. Not in a weird way. Just a platonic passionate love a user feels for the wizard-like techie who saves his unknowledgeable hind end. You have always treated me great in the past, so I know you will have done everything possible to help me, even if I really did dump the whole thing down the memory hole. Thanks folks.

Love Always,
MisterBixby, Idiot User.

This is the actual ticket I submitted to LivingDot support. I hope it brought them a chuckle. I must tell you that the support system at LivingDot, my host, has been incredible. I submitted this ticket at 11:45. I had a response by 11:53 and while the response was essentially, “Don’t worry, we perform nightly back-ups, but I can’t restore it tonight. The day shift can do it when they get here,” when I checked my blog at 8 a.m., my blog was fully restored.

Those of you who don’t get InstaPundit traffic and are looking for affordable and knowledgeable hosting should really look at LivingDot for your blog hosting needs. I couldn’t be more satisfied. Thanks again guys.

This has been an unpaid testamonial for LivingDot blog hosting services. The writer makes this statement out of sheer joy at their splendiferous service.

Cleaning out the ThoughtBucket, or Long OverDue Blog Referral

I was searching for a relevant quote for another post about 3 weeks ago (maybe the aborted religion post, I’m not sure) and chanced across his quotes page, which contains some interesting and thought-provoking quotations. I noticed a blog link at the bottom and followed it. Tremendously interesting stuff. I am not sure if is a “minarchic” Libertarian or “anarchic” Libertarian, but based on the posts on the front page, I would be tempted to go with the latter, especially considering the a priori assumptions he uses in this post about arguments, assumptions, assertions and fallacies. His foundational belief seems to be that until a convincing argument for the legitimacy of the State’s existence is made, it should not be assumed. Logical and Reasonable. This, I believe, puts him in the category of Big-L Libertarian, and more toward the anarchic side at that. I don’t know that I believe in the inherent illegitimacy of the State, but as I don’t have a reasonable argument for my assertion, I do not choose to engage him on this.

He is intelligent, fond of the color black, witty and curious. All of which makes for good, if eye-straining, reading. I highly recommend reading him regularly, and he is hereby added to the blogroll.

P.S. He proudly displays pictures of his wife in alluring poses (certainly with her consent) which can only benefits us, the viewers. To borrow an exclamation from the Aussies, good on ya mate!

Congratulations are in order to Mean Mr. Mustard. Russ just proposed to his dear Michelle, and fool that she is, she said yes. Best of luck to them both. We’ve been waiting for him to pop the question for some time. He has chickened out once or twice, but to paraphrase Samuel Johnson, “Nothing focuses the mind like knowing he is flying 2500 miles away from his lady love in the morning.” Russ leaves for his DC internship today.

As I told him, without Mrs. Bixby (Not her real name) I would long ago have starved, died of malnutrition or simply have gotten lost and never made it home. As I tell everyone, Everyone needs a wife. Congrats to him on getting his.

Why am I blogging when I should be sleeping? I blame Callimachus over at Done With Mirrors. He started blogging just a little before I did, and is doing a much better job of it let me tell you. He’s one of those bloggers who I instantly realized would do me a world of good to read regularly. I added him to my feed list and let Feedreader accumulate yummy political, etymological and comedy goodness. Tonight, I noticed his series on Wilson and Wilsonians (1,2,3,4, 5) and I admit I was intrigued, but I was actually sidetracked into reading his posts on Iraq and Viet Nam. He is a former liberal, but not quite a conservative (and as an etymologist, he rightly points out that those labels are nearly devoid of meaning, or at least are no longer useful for describing or comparing anything. Callimachus is also managing editor at a small-town newspaper near Lancaster or Reading, PA (which, by sheer coincidence, I will be visiting on behalf of work for 5 days next week-end). His job gives him access to the wire services allowing him to post entries like this one comparing the wire services’ photo coverage of the Syrian pullout of Lebanon.

At any rate, I just wanted to point out a member of my blogroll that I have been aware of for a long time, but never really got to know. Well, now I did and you should too (not that I seem to have any readers in my new home yet).
